No family needs to navigate special needs alone. Support comes from several directions, and knowing where to look makes the search less overwhelming.

Working with Schools

Ask about individual learning plans and the support a school can formally provide. Keep notes from meetings, and treat teachers as partners who see your child in a different setting than you do.

Therapies and Specialists

Speech, occupational and behavioural therapists each address different needs, and a referral from a paediatrician is often the first step. It is reasonable to ask any specialist how progress will be measured and reviewed.

Community and Peer Support

Parent groups, local charities and online communities offer practical tips and the relief of talking with people who understand. Sharing what has worked for others can save a great deal of trial and error. For more, start at our welcome page.
